How to choose good snorkeling gear(mask, snorkel, fins)

Having the right snorkel gear is the most important thing for an unforgeable underwater adventure. Snorkelling is one of the most fascinating ways to view the wonderful world just beneath the ocean’s surface. It is not an extreme sport and the only skill you need is being able to swim. You can swim with the fish, watch beautiful live corals and enjoy an unexplored world.
Choosing the best snorkel set can be a real difficult process especially for snorkellers that practice this sport for fun and leisure. Not having the right mask can turn a very enjoyable experience into an uncomfortable nightmare.

Here are some tips and tricks on how to choose the best snorkel gear.

The Mask
A snorkel mask is your window to the underwater world and it is the most important piece of equipment you need to own for this adventure. It basically provides an air pocket for your eyes so you can focus and see clearly underwater. One of the most important things to look for in a snorkelling mask is that it should always be a proper fit. The rubber-like portion of the mask (the skirt of the mask) must properly seal against the face. A leak between the skirt of the mask and your face can cause great discomfort and will also make the mask fog. Make sure that the skirt is made from silicone because rubber skirts will become stiff and crack over time.
Some snorkel masks will make you feel tunnel-visioned. Choose a mask with wide peripheral vision so you will not miss anything going on underwater.
Purchase a no fog lens for minimum of preparation to keep them crystal clear during your underwater adventure.
Some lenses are specially designed to increase under water clarity during difficult light conditions by cutting down on glare. This feature makes a big difference in the whole snorkel experience.

The snorkel

One of the most common problems with all traditional snorkel masks is the mouthpiece. People who wish to snorkel for the first time often discover that they have difficulties breathing and some simply cannot use it because of a strong gag reflex.
However, if you choose a traditional snorkel mask make sure that the mouthpiece sits comfortable in your mouth and it should not feel like it is pulling. You can choose between an open tube, semi-dry snorkel or dry snorkel depending on personal preference. Snorkels have different sizes, many diverse mouthpieces that vary from the more rigid PVC to soft silicone and even extra wide tubes for maximum air inhalation.

The Diving Fins
Fins allow you to swim and move more efficiently through water while using only your leg muscles. Snorkel fins also provide some floatation for your feet which helps to keep your body horizontal on the surface.
You can choose between full foot fins or open heel fins which are considered to be more comfortable and usually more powerful.

Depending on your preferences you can custom choose each piece from your snorkel set that suits your needs but keep in mind that a perfect experience underwater depends on your snorkel gear.
